If you thought getting ready & preparing for international travel was extra work added to your to-do list pre covid, just wait !
Being a corporate flight attendant my travel didn’t really cease like it did everywhere else. But it has definitely changed. Some countries are requiring vaccines and some just a negative test result. The British Virgin Islands has a set of rules of their own.
Before arriving on the breath taking island of Tortola , you must fill out a long lengthy questionnaire that must be completed pre departure in order to enter the country. This is where they determine if you are a health threat or not. Once you have your acceptance or rejection you can proceed from there. If you are rejected they will explain why but you can only be rejected once. After your first rejection you have to wait an entire two weeks until you can re apply.
If you do not have health insurance or travel health insurance you will undoubtedly be denied entry 🙅🏻 they will not even let your application go through.
I had my covid test done in the states. The requirement is five days or less pre departure. On top of having proof of your negative test result if you are not vaccinated you MUST quarantine upon arrival for seven to eight days. Since our vessel would only be staying for twenty four hours my initial request was denied. My charter company had to ask if I could be an exception as I am only there for work and our next trip leaves in less than twenty four hours. The country was very helpful and I got the clearance.
Documents needed: health insurance, passport # , proof of negative covid result , proof of covid safe hotel; yes you read that right. You have to show proof of where you are staying and that the location follows the countries covid protocol.
Upon arrival we were escorted to a building where we had to sanitize, take our temperature, and be entered into a computer system where they ask if you are vaccinated. When all that is finished you walk into a closed room to get your nose swab test done by a person in a hazmat suit. Since we were not vaccinated we were given tracking devices and bright green wrist bands.
Once we arrived at our hotel we were told that we were not allowed to leave our rooms, our patios where the boarder that stood between us and the rest of the resort. Not even to go to the beach or the restaurant. If we wanted food they would bring it to our room. We had to quarantine.
You must then take another covid test the day before leaving the island to come back to the states.
It’s safe to say international travel has definitely changed. I think it’s also safe to say if you don’t have the vaccine now is not the time to travel to the British Virgin Islands. 😂
As I travel I will share my experiences with other countries that I enter. I hope this helps you plan you next trip! Please message me with any questions!
Safe travels ✈️
